Overcoming Greed through Faith

In Islam, greed (tama') is a disease of the heart that can lead to spiritual and worldly harm. The cure lies in cultivating contentment (qana'ah) and a strong reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). These du'as and hadiths serve as a guide to cleanse the heart and find true satisfaction.

Duas for Contentment & Trust

Dua for a Content Heart

اَللّٰهُمَّ قَنِّعْنِي بِمَا رَزَقْتَنِي وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ وَاخْلُفْ عَلَيَّ كُلَّ غَائِبَةٍ لِي بِخَيْرٍ

Allahumma qanni'ni bima razaqtani, wa barik li fihi, wakhluf 'alayya kulla gha'ibatin li bi khairin

"O Allah, make me content with what You have provided me, and bless it for me, and replace for me every absent thing with something better."

(Al-Hakim)

Dua for Contentment and Goodness

اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

Allahumma inni as'aluka al-huda, wat-tuqa, wal-'afafa, wal-ghina

"O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, a chaste life, and contentment."

(Muslim)

Hadith on True Wealth

لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ، وَلَكِنَّ الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ

Laysal ghina 'an kathratil 'arad, walakinnal ghina ghina an-nafs.

"Wealth is not in having many possessions; rather, true wealth is the wealth of the soul (contentment)."

(Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

Hadith on Moderation and Contentment

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ وَرُزِقَ كَفَافًا وَقَنَّعَهُ اللّٰهُ بِمَا آتَاهُ

Qad aflaha man aslama wa ruziqaa kafaafan wa qanna'ahul laahu bima atah.

"He has succeeded who has surrendered himself (to Allah), and has been given just enough to live on, and Allah has made him content with what He has given him."

(Sahih Muslim)
